PSEUDO-SOLITUDE

Solo Exhibition

Fairbanks Gallery April 10-17, 2021

Pseudo-Solitude - B.F.A. thesis

“The non-relational features triggered by the biological reaction to social isolation, when they predominate, constitute what we call pseudo-solitude.” Averill and Sundararajan’s (2014) theory of authentic solitude is associated with perceived closeness with others as well as with oneself. (Experiences of Solitude: Issues of Assessment, Theory, and Culture; Dr. James Averill & Dr. Louise Sundararajan). Although throughout quarantine we have been largely in isolation, external stimuli is still abundant. I experience solitude vicariously through my art in an attempt to connect with myself and others while still largely feeling a disconnect, a new feeling of emptiness.

EYES ON FIRE

Truckenbrod Gallery - Corvallis OR - Juniper Alliston, Shuo Cai, Lacey Prososki

Video/Photos by: Nicholas Svoboda

We burn from the screens we use to escape the outside world. Ignited by our own reflections, we capture yet another self-portrait in confinement and work tirelessly through a new reality. This exhibition encompasses the experiences of being a young artist under the circumstances of COVID-19. Brought together by the OSU Art Department, alumni Shuo Cai, and BFA seniors Juniper Alliston and Lacey Prososki present Eyes on Fire.

EYES ON FIRE

Eyes on Fire included live performance paintings - viewers were welcome to watch through windows of the gallery or social distance inside. Video by Nich Svoboda of the exhibition, including interviews of artists, is included on the home page.
